Information For Authors

Submission Information

LOSARI: Journal of Community Service accepts community service articles written in English. All manuscripts must use the official template and be submitted through the online system at ojs.losari.or.id. Authors must register an account before submitting. All manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using Turnitin. Manuscripts with a similarity score of more than 25% will be automatically rejected.

Evidence-Based Community Service Policy

LOSARI prioritizes manuscripts that demonstrate measurable and evidence-based impacts on target communities. Every manuscript must present structured evaluation data showing the outcomes of community service interventions, technology transfer activities, empowerment programs, or capacity-building initiatives.

Manuscripts that function solely as descriptive activity reports without evaluation data, impact analysis, or measurable community outcomes are not prioritized and may be returned to authors at the screening stage without peer review.

Manuscript Structure

1

Title

The title must clearly describe the community problem addressed, the intervention applied, the target beneficiaries, and the expected outcomes. Written in English, maximum 20 words. Use action verbs: Strengthening, Improving, Enhancing, Developing, Implementing, Empowering. Avoid generic titles such as "Counseling about...", "Socialization of...", or "Training on..." as standalone titles.

Maximum 20 words | Times New Roman, 16pt
2

Authors and Affiliations

List all authors in order of contribution with full name (no abbreviations), institutional affiliation, city, and country. The corresponding author must be marked with an asterisk (*) and their email address provided. ORCID identifiers are strongly encouraged for all authors.

3

Abstract

Write a concise single paragraph summarizing the manuscript. The abstract must include all five mandatory components: Background (community problem and its significance), Objective (main goal of the program), Methods (intervention design, evaluation approach, and number of participants), Results (measurable outcomes with key data), and Conclusion (main impact and implications). Do not include citations, references, figure numbers, or table numbers.

150 to 250 words | Single paragraph | No citations
4

Keywords

Provide 3 to 5 keywords that best describe the community problem, intervention, and outcomes reported in the manuscript. Separate keywords with semicolons. Choose terms widely used in the community service and community development fields to maximize discoverability. Avoid overly general terms and abbreviations.

3 to 5 keywords | Semicolon-separated
5

Introduction

The Introduction must address all six components in sequence: (1) Global or national context of the community problem with supporting data or policy references; (2) Community partner problem based on preliminary surveys, observations, or interviews; (3) Literature review of relevant prior programs and studies; (4) Gap analysis identifying what prior programs missed; (5) Program objectives stated clearly and measurably; (6) Scientific contribution or novelty of this program. The final sentence must state the program objective explicitly.

6 mandatory components | Approx. 500–700 words
6

Methods

Methods must be described with sufficient detail to allow replication. Include six mandatory subsections: (2.1) Community partner and location with participant characteristics; (2.2) Program design describing the intervention model; (2.3) Implementation stages with a mandatory program flowchart (Figure 1); (2.4) Data collection techniques (observation, questionnaire, pre-test/post-test, FGD, etc.); (2.5) Evaluation methods specifying which community impact indicators were measured; (2.6) Data analysis methods used (N-Gain, paired t-test, Wilcoxon, thematic analysis, etc.).

Program flowchart mandatory | 6 subsections required
7

Results

The Results section must focus exclusively on measurable findings. Do not narrate activities or describe what was done. Present data, statistics, tables, and figures demonstrating community outcomes. Include three subsections: (3.1) Participant characteristics; (3.2) Program implementation (participation and completion rates); (3.3) Impact evaluation with quantitative or qualitative evidence. Examples of reportable outcomes: knowledge improvement, skill improvement, technology adoption rate, productivity change, income improvement, behavioral change, community participation rate.

Minimum 1 table + 1 graph or chart required | No activity narration
8

Discussion

The Discussion must address four mandatory components without repeating the Results section: (4.1) Explanation of outcomes connecting results to the intervention design and community context; (4.2) Comparison with previous studies identifying similarities and differences with related programs in the literature; (4.3) Practical implications for practitioners, policymakers, and similar communities; (4.4) Sustainability and scalability discussing how the community will maintain program benefits and whether the model can be replicated elsewhere.

9

Conclusion

Provide a maximum of two paragraphs. Paragraph 1 must summarize the main findings and measured impacts, stating the magnitude of change achieved (e.g., knowledge scores increased from X to Y; adoption rate reached Z%). Paragraph 2 must provide specific recommendations for community practitioners, partner institutions, and future programs, including sustainability directions. Do not introduce new information in the Conclusion.

10

Ethical Statement Mandatory

All manuscripts must include an Ethical Statement confirming that the community service activity was conducted with the informed consent of all participants and formal approval from the partner institution. State that participation was voluntary, personal data were anonymized, and the cultural values and dignity of the target community were respected throughout all stages of the program.

11

Author Contributions Mandatory

All authors must declare their specific contributions using the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) framework. Each author must have contributed to at least one aspect of the following:

Conceptualization Program design Implementation Data collection Data analysis Writing – original draft Writing – review & editing Supervision
12

Acknowledgements Optional

Acknowledge institutions, funding agencies, local government, community partners, and individuals who supported the program but are not listed as authors. Include grant or funding numbers if applicable. If no external funding was received, state: "This community service activity received no external funding."
